3   Saturday February 15th       Before class, read TBD section from Part 2 of TSIS    Bring in first draft of your Analysis Assignment. Everyone will share with a colleague. Two volunteers will share with whole class.

4  Saturday February 22nd       Before class read TBD section from Part 2 of TSIS.        Final Draft of Analysis Assignment is Due 
              In class, we will re-read and discuss sections from any of the works you are writing about       In class, we will write an informal self-reflection about the assignment.

5  Saturday February 29th       Before class please read TBD section of TSIS Part 2       In class we will do another template exercise from TSIS 
              In class we will look again at the final exam texts. We will reconsider our opinions based on what we have read and talked about so far.

     In class, we will write an informal comparison, making connections and using examples.

6  Saturday March 7th       Before class, please read TBD section of TSIS Part 2       In class, short quiz about TSIS reading. Write short response to HW reading.

look at Synthesis Assignment and discuss 

     We will talk about how to properly cite a source using MLA format and practice citing sources in relation to our responses.

7  Saturday March 14th       Before class please read TBD section of Part 3 of TSIS       In class you will present your proposals for the Synthesis Assignment 
              In class we will read Liz Addison, Two Years Are Better Than Four 365 and/or Gerald Graff, Hidden Intellectualism 369       We will do a template exercise related to the Synthesis Assignment 

We will discuss connections between the readings

8  Saturday March 21st       Before class please read TBD section of Part 3 of TSIS       Please bring to class a first draft of your Synthesis Assignment. We will do peer reviews in class. Two volunteers will share with the class.

9  Saturday March 28th       In class we will read TBD section of Part 4 of TSIS       Final Draft of your Synthesis Assignment is due. 
              We will revisit the final exam pieces.

Speech 296 

     In class we will start to discuss the Documented Essay 

We will do a template exercise using Pollan and Foster-Wallace as examples, and incorporating what we have learned so far.

10  Saturday April 4th       Before class, please read TBD section of Part 4 of TSIS       Annotate copies of Pollan and Foster-Wallace 
                   Before class reading TBD, look at Documented Essay Assignment 

 

     We will talk about the three pillars of persuasion: ethos, logos and pathos, and write a short paragraph about one of the assigned pieces in each style. We will talk about adding evidence to each.

11  Saturday April 11th  SPRING RECESS, NO CLASS   
                 
12  Saturday April 18th       Re-read chosen essay. Find one related essay. Print and bring to class.       Before class, write a brief proposal for your Documented Essay.       After class, short entry and response in Blackboard discussion board
